About Me
Hello! My name is Victoria, I am a full-time senior and this is my 6th year at Stanford OHS. Singing has always been a big part of my life: I have been with the San Francisco Girls Chorus since age four. We rehearse many hours a week to prepare for performances and tours. Stanford OHS has made it possible for me to gain a high-quality and vigorous education while pursuing my interest in singing. Because much of my time is spent in chorus, Stanford OHS has taught me the essential skill of time management and efficiency. Our fantastic Stanford OHS instructors have persuaded me to develop a passion for so many subjects. Throughout my time at Stanford OHS, I have really fallen in love with science and math, given the breadth and depth of STEM classes, as well as the enthusiasm of all the knowledgeable and accessible teachers! I believe that the education I gain at Stanford OHS will prepare me with a solid foundation on endless possibilities on anything I want to pursue in college and the years beyond. To stay engaged in the Pixel community, I am a leader of the Science Bowl, Climate Action Club, & Latin Club, and I am also an active member of Quiz Bowl, which are clubs that have opportunities for in- person activities!
Why I Chose Stanford OHS
I chose to attend Stanford OHS because it provides the perfect platform for me to take rigorous academic classes while pursuing my outside interest. As a member of the Premier Chamber Ensemble at San Francisco Girls Chorus, I often have long hours of rehearsals, as well as concerts and tours out of town. It is easy to make arrangements with instructors ahead of time for missed classes and catch up by reviewing past lecture recordings. Stanford OHS provides a wide variety of classes, which gives me ample options to advance academically without much restriction. The format of the virtual classroom helps me stay engaged in class; breakout rooms give me a chance to collaborate with my insightful peers and text chat allows everyone’s unique voice to be heard. In the virtual classroom, I feel we can accomplish much more than a brick-and-mortar school because we can pack so many things into the class discussions. To my surprise, all the well-qualified teachers are so accessible and eager to teach and help students through various means such as office hours, review sessions, one-on-one appointments, shared slide notes, lecture videos, and additional resources; taking advantage of such resources has become part of the learning process. More help is provided at the Writing and Tutoring Center. Stanford OHS has not only provided the perfect learning environment but also has given me a strong sense of belonging in the incredibly diverse community. Through various online and in-person activities organized by Stanford OHS, I get to keep connections with inspiring pixels from all over the world!
What I Love About Stanford OHS
After joining Stanford OHS, I was surprised by the number of opportunities we have to meet our classmates and teachers. Every Friday, there are so many clubs and activities that I can attend, ranging from Pixel Chefs, Neuroscience, Japanese Language & Culture, Quiz Bowl, and many more! For in-person events, we have the annual Start-Up, Pixel Festival, 3-day Graduation Weekend, Summer@Stanford, and various regional meetups! If you are lucky like me and are taking Latin, you get to go to state-wide Latin conventions, plus our unforgettable trip to Italy in 2019. Students and teachers come from different states and countries and cultural backgrounds. I am now closely connected to so many friends around the globe!
