I have grown as a student and as a person because of OHS and can explain to interested applicants and new students that the things I value most about OHS are not the things I came for; OHS provided more than I expected. I came to OHS for the chance to share interesting discussions with teachers and classmates who are passionate about advanced STEM topics. I discovered, however, that well-taught humanities classes are as fun as STEM classes, and are really social too. Through the required core humanities classes (which I almost didn’t take because I didn’t think they would be beneficial), OHS has made me a more creative thinker, and that has been a benefit in every area of my life. I also expected to find a group of peers that I could easily relate to and would enjoy being in classes with. What surprised me was finding true friends that I see at homecoming, graduation, spring break trips, meet-ups (rafting, paintball, haunted houses, pizza) and even a weekly rock climbing club.
