Oren is a composer and trumpeter and teaches AP Music Theory at OHS. He is currently a PhD candidate in composition at the University of California, Berkeley. His works written for a diverse number of ensembles have been performed throughout North America and Europe.  Aside from composition and trumpet-playing, Oren has a keen interest in music cognition and perception and has worked in the labs of Stephen McAdams at McGill University and in the Dresden Music Cognition Lab supervised by Martin Rohrmeier. Oren’s work in cognition has been focused around the expectations that are generated in the listener’s mind when listening to a piece of music and how these expectations guide the listening experience.
