About Me

Hello! My name is Maddy, I'm a senior in my fourth year at Stanford OHS and I currently live in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I am a classical singer and play the piano and cello. I'm also a huge musical theatre nerd and love listening to show tunes, classical music, rock, and indie music! Additionally, I love writing personal essays, screenplays, novels, and short stories. I'm also a Deputy Editor in Chief for the Communication Team at the nonprofit organization Dear Asian Youth. Academically, I am a peer tutor and Teaching Assistant; I lead the Stanford OHS Salon club, the Culture, History, and Civics club (CHC); I co-lead the Asian and Pacific American Student Union (APASU) and I'm the Assistant Editor for the Pixel Journal. I hope to pursue a dual degree in Voice and Opera Performance and Creative Writing. In my free time, I enjoy participating in orchestras, dancing, solving math problems, and being with my cat, Buddy

Why I Chose Stanford OHS

I chose to attend Stanford because I was looking for opportunities for a more diverse community and rigorous academics. At brick and mortar schools, I never really fit in with other students and felt I was never challenged enough. I joined Stanford when I was a freshman in high school and instantly knew that it was the perfect fit for me. I was able to find an international community that supports one another as well as an extremely challenging academic class schedule that I love. Stanford’s schedule gives me the ability to take an assortment of fascinating and unique classes while also being able to pursue outside activities that I am exceedingly interested in. Ultimately, being at Stanford OHS is the first school I’ve ever attended where I feel like I belong.

What I Love About Stanford OHS

I love the community at Stanford OHS and the rigorous courses that are offered to us. I have found my best friends at this school, and I have never felt like I belonged anywhere else more than at Stanford OHS. My original motivation for attending Stanford OHS was academic, as I was looking to be more challenged. Stanford has provided such a unique opportunity in allowing me to take fascinating courses that always intrigue me right from the comfort of my home. Moreover, the resources we are provided with are incredible: from every peer tutor and Teaching Assistant to office hours where teachers always welcome us, to the wonderful Writing Center where the instructors have seen many terrible papers from me, yet they are always there with helpful and kind advice. Overall, each individual that makes up the community of Stanford OHS is what I love most, as we know we are always there to support and cheer one another on.
