Kimberly Birge-Liberman

Biology Instructor

B.S., Roger Williams University
M.S., Syracuse University

Kim earned her B.S. in Marine Biology from Roger Williams University and her M.S. in Science Education & Biology from Syracuse University. She spent the early part of her career teaching outdoor environmental education and used it as a way to meet many interesting people and explore new ecosystems. Kim has lived in nine states across the country and has spent time in all but three states, with a great deal of time in National Parks and Marine Sanctuaries.

Kim has been interested in biology since she was very young, and her first science research experience was in sixth grade with Project Oceanology in Groton, CT. Her team recorded eelgrass populations in the Niantic River, a tributary of Long Island Sound, for the Department of Environmental Protection. She has been SCUBA diving since she was eleven years old and especially enjoyed diving each day while doing research on Queen Conch (Strombus gigas) populations on South Caicos in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

She arrived at OHS in 2024, after teaching middle and high school biology and wellness in New England independent schools for over twenty years. Kim enjoys helping students see how biology content is relevant to their everyday lives and strives to make classes meaningful and engaging. In her free time, Kim enjoys gardening, baking, and hiking. She has a large collection of vanilla beans from around the world which she uses to make vanilla extract and paste. Kim and her family also serve as volunteer puppy raisers for the Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation and they enjoy raising German Shepherds alongside their two cats and bearded dragon.
