At first, I came into Stanford OHS as a quiet person who did not understand the concept of how the school worked and the opportunities it provided. The moment that changed was when I took a trip to NYC for a global Model UN conference. What I saw was the opportunity to be involved and compete on a global level, an opportunity the likes of which you cannot find anywhere else. Throughout the year, I also met amazing people via Skype groups, who were interested in the same subjects I was. This sharpened my debating skills and gave me an interesting intellectual experience, as well as developing deeper relationships that had more meaning than simply an aqiuaintance. Due to the opportunities at OHS, I have traveled to Boston, California and NYC, and the interesting and driven people at OHS have motivated me to do more things outside of academics. A sort of friendly competition has motivated me to start writing and doing a podcast for OHS as well as volunteer and get involved with my local community. Over the past year, I have grown as a student, as a learner, and as a person because of OHS and the opportunities it provided. It is because I took those opportunities that this has become such a great experience for me. Now, it is time for it to come full circle for me, as I take the opportunity to help accelerate the new students journey towards seizing new and improved opportunities, both academic and personal. To show someone their chance to grow and seeing them grow as people throughout a process and allowing them to help me grow as a leader simultaneously, may be the greatest opportunity I’ve had yet.
