Ahmed grew up in the Bay Area, attended the University of California at Berkeley for his undergraduate degree in Music, and received his Masters from the S.F. Conservatory of Music. From 1995 to 2010, he taught Musicianship, Keyboard, and Junior Choir at U.C. Berkeley in the Young Musicians Program. From 1998 to 2013, Ahmed was on the faculty of Bentley School's Upper School, where he created their Music Program, as well as serving as the Athletic Director for two years. He has also been a Music Instructor for the San Francisco Boys Chorus and Stanley Middle School in Lafayette. He currently serves as the Director of Vocal Music and the Visual and Performing Arts Department Chair at Castilleja School.

Ahmed is certified in Kodaly Methodology, Orff Schulwerk, and trained as a string teacher at Indiana University's Summer String Teachers Program. Ahmed loves to play chamber music and compose both serious and silly music. In his far too limited spare time, he enjoys reading historical fiction, and taking bike rides with his two young daughters.
