Ayla Besemer is an instructor in the Writing and Tutoring Center. She has an undergraduate degree in Humanities from Yale University, and was selected as a Yale Journalism Scholar. She also attended the Stanford Online High School as a full-time high schooler while living and traveling aboard a boat with her parents, graduating in 2015.
Ayla served as a writing tutor at the Yale College Writing Center and was recently Deputy Director of Communications for the successful Attorney General’s campaign in Colorado. She has also written for numerous publications, including as a beat reporter at the Yale Daily News, in long-form for Standby and the Yale Daily News Magazine, and was twice published in Astronomy magazine. She is excited to return to her alma mater, OHS, as a writing instructor!
In her free time, Ayla is either in search of the perfect taco, binge-reading Richard Russo, or singing Broadway musicals at the top of her lungs. She also shoots competitive Skeet&Trap, plays the violin, and is working her way up to one day finishing a Sunday New York Times Crossword puzzle.
