The OHS College Counseling team recently returned from the annual National Association of College Admissions Counseling conference. Held this year in Columbus, Ohio, the conference is an exciting networking and learning opportunity for admissions and counseling professionals. This year’s conference drew 6,500 attendees from high schools and colleges across the country.
The conference enables attendees to share and learn with colleagues from the ‘other side of the desk.’ Each year, there is a focus on important topics and emerging trends in the field, and numerous sessions focused on best practices and professional development. The OHS college counselors attended sessions on the University of California’s new personal insight questions, providing support for LGBTQ students in the admission process, the recently updated financial aid procedures, crafting the college list and more. The college counselors also had the opportunity to connect with dozens of representatives from colleges across the country to discuss OHS, our students, and our academic program.
The OHS College Counseling team attends this conference every year, and it has become an invaluable experience that has helped shape the work they do in their office. They also report that it has been impressive to see the growth in understanding and appreciation of OHS over time from those who work in college admission offices.
